KCPRO is a nonprofit competitive youth ice racing organization for kids ages 4-16 that encourages safety and sportsmanship. The organization is divided into East and West groups with KCPRO-East hosting races in the Northland, including Saturday, Feb. 19, on Pike Lake in Duluth. Second grade, and some third grade, students at North Shore Community School near Duluth have been learning about dog sledding over the last month and their lesson culminated on Friday, Feb. 18, 2022 with the 15th year of the "Ikidarod." The students pretended to be sled dog teams and raced on the school's nature trail, stopping at checkpoints as family and fellow students cheered them on.

Kickoff time for Super Bowl LV is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. CST Sunday, Feb. 13.

There will be seven new medal events, including men's and women's big air freestyle, women's monobob, mixed team competitions in freestyle skiing aerials, ski jumping, and snowboard cross, and the mixed relay in short track speed skating.

The Minnesota Wild brought a full production to the Essentia Duluth Heritage Center for local youth players to enjoy.

Mushers 14 years old and younger raced in the John Beargrease 2022 Cub Run at Lakeview National Golf Course in Two Harbors on Saturday, Jan. 22. The Cub Run gives young mushers a chance to try the sport. The Cub Run featured 2.2-mile and quarter-mile races. For more details, visit beargrease.com. Employees and volunteers with Mid-State Truck Service location in Duluth spent Thursday evening, Dec. 2, 2021, shopping at Fleet Farm in Hermantown as part of Truckers for Tots, which supports the Toys for Tots program. More than $11,000 worth of toys were purchased, put into approximately 40 large shopping bags and loaded into a semitrailer truck. On Friday morning, Dec. 3, the truck stopped by the Duluth Salvation Army to deliver the donation. The toys will be given to families in need during the Duluth Salvation Army's Christmas assistance distribution week Dec. 20-23 with toys handed out Dec. 21-23. Mid-State Truck Service plans to exceed $50,000 worth of toy donations to the communities it serves in Minnesota and Wisconsin.
