DFL Gov. Tim Walz, House Speaker Melissa Hortman and incoming Senate Majority Leader Kari Dziedzic sent a letter to the Democratic National Committee this week pledging to pass legislation to move the primary to an earlier date if national leadership picks the state.

Minnesota’s 2024 presidential primary is scheduled to take place on March 5, but that could change after a key body of the Democratic National Committee meets in Washington, D.C., on Wednesday and Thursday. A decision could come as early as this summer, but Minnesota Republicans would have to agree to a change.
Nationalist Orban said the next U.S. presidential election, when Donald Trump suggests he may seek a second term in the White House, and the vote for the European Parliament would make that a vital year.
