Yellowjackets report: UWS men, women reach UMAC soccer finals
Men blank Northland; women edge Morris in semifinals.
Archie Gjerdrum and Blake Perry scored goals and Wisconsin-Superior secured a berth in the UMAC men’s soccer championship game with a 2-0 semifinal victory over Northland College on Wednesday night at NBC Spartan Sports Complex.
Gjerdrum opened the scoring in the 30th minute and Perry added a 72nd-minute tally for the win.
The top-seeded Yellowjackets (10-1) owned a 13-1 shots-on-goal advantage en route to setting up a title-game matchup against Bethany Lutheran College on Saturday in Superior.
UWS 2, Minnesota-Morris 1
Niya Wilson and Annah Schussman scored first-half goals and the second-seeded Yellowjackets hung on to win the UMAC semifinal at NBC Spartan Sports Complex.
Wilson scored in the 19th minute for her ninth goal of the season and Schussman tallied shortly before halftime for her fifth of the season.
Yellowjackets goalkeeper Morgan Philliber stopped five shots but allowed Monica Calderon’s goal in the 87th minute.
UWS (7-2) advances to play St. Scholastica in Saturday’s championship game at Saints Field.
