Women's hockey: UMD's Rooney, Morin invited to US camp

Sophomore goaltender Maddie Rooney and senior defenseman Sidney Morin were invited to the 2017 U.S. Women's National Team Selection Camp that runs from April 30-May 4 at the Florida Hospital Center Ice in Tampa, Fla.

Sophomore goaltender Maddie Rooney and senior defenseman Sidney Morin were invited to the 2017 U.S. Women's National Team Selection Camp that runs from April 30-May 4 at the Florida Hospital Center Ice in Tampa, Fla.

The camp will be used to determine the national team roster in the buildup to the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, Olympics.

Rooney participated on her first national team earlier this month at the World Championships and the Andover, Minn., native brought back a gold medal.

Morin was named WCHA defensive player of the year and selected to the USCHO All-American team.

Former UMD standout Zoe Hickel also was chosen to compete at the 42-player camp.
