NEW RICHMOND, Wis. -- State wildlife officials estimate 626 to 662 wolves now roam Wisconsin.

Department of Natural Resources officials told the Natural Resources Board on Tuesday that's up 14 percent from the 2007-08 winter estimate of 549 to 576 wolves. The agency's population goal is 350.

The DNR says 162 packs exist in the state. The largest pack, with eight to 11 wolves, is in Sawyer County.
