UNIONDALE, N.Y. - Left winger Zach Parise scored the game-tying goal in the third period Tuesday night and scored the only goal in the shootout, lifting the Minnesota Wild to a 2-1 win over the New York Islanders at Nassau Coliseum.
Pariseās father, J.P., scored the goal that gave the Islanders their first playoff series win in 1975. J,P. Parise died of lung cancer on Jan. 7.
Minnesota goalie Devan Dubnyk, who made his club-record 32nd consecutive start, recorded 37 saves in regulation and overtime before preventing all three Islanders skaters from scoring in the shootout. The Wild are 24-6-2 since acquiring Dubnyk from the Arizona Coyotes on Jan. 14.
The win was the 10th straight on the road for the Wild (42-25-7), two shy of the NHL record set by the Detroit Red Wings in 2005-06.
Center John Tavares scored in the final minute of the second period for the Islanders (44-25-5).
New York goalie Jaroslav Halak made 31 saves in regulation and overtime.
Pariseās second effort allowed the Wild to tie it with 8:15 left. After his first shot was turned back by Halak, Parise dived forward and shoved the puck into the net. His momentum carried him into the back of the net as the goal light went on.
The goalies were the stars until Tavaresā goal. Dubnyk withstood almost constant pressure by the Islanders in the first period, during which New York outshot the Wild, 16-5.
The Islandersā biggest threat in the first came around the midway point, when Dubnyk turned away a point-blank shot by center Brock Nelson and a subsequent tap-in attempt.
In the second, Halak made several nifty saves to keep the game scoreless. With a little less than seven minutes left, Halak slid all the way across the goalmouth to knock away a shot by right winger Jason Pominville that appeared headed for the empty right corner of the net.
Less than two minutes later, center Jordan Schroederās shot from just to the left of the net was deflected by Halak. Later in the period, Halak made three saves on a power play, including a glove save of a slap shot by center Mikael Granlund with five seconds remaining on the man advantage.
The Islanders finally broke through just after a power play ended with 23.7 seconds left in the middle period. Tavares began the sequence by passing to right winger Kyle Okposo, who teamed up with center Anders Lee to take multiple stabs at poking the puck past Dubnyk.
Tavares circled around and managed to not only corral the puck in between three Wild players in the crease but also tuck it into the right corner.
Dubnyk stopped Nelson again on a breakaway 1:19 into the third, when Nelson passed the puck between the legs of defenseman Matt Dumba before his shot was smothered by the goalie.
