Waterloo rallied to score two runs in the top of the ninth inning to hand Duluth a 7-6 defeat Friday night before 1,307 fans at Wade Stadium, the Huskies’ 10th loss in their last 11 Northwoods League baseball games.
Pat Mckenzie, Jon McAllister and Will Sparks all singled with one out in the ninth and, along with a walk and a key error, were enough to spoil the Huskies’ final home game of the first half of the season.
Continuing a season-long problem, Duluth committed four errors to aid in the Bucks’ comeback.
McAllister was 3-for-4 and scored three runs, including the game-winner on Sparks’ single off reliever Steve Villines. Sparks had three RBIs on two hits. Chris Myjak, who relieved at the start of the ninth, took the loss.
Austin Christensen had two of the six hits by the Huskies (8-25), while Keach Ballard drove in his 23rd and 24th runs of the season with a double in a four-run sixth inning.
The last-place Huskies head to Green Bay today for the start of a two-game series before closing the first half Monday at Thunder Bay, Ontario.
