Virginia girls lose in Class A tennis quarterfinals

No. 4-ranked Waseca won two singles matches in three sets Tuesday morning to upset No. 3 Virginia 4-3 in the Minnesota Class A high school girls team tennis quarterfinals at the Reed-Sweatt Family Tennis Center in Minneapolis.

No. 4-ranked Waseca won two singles matches in three sets Tuesday morning to upset No. 3 Virginia 4-3 in the Minnesota Class A high school girls team tennis quarterfinals at the Reed-Sweatt Family Tennis Center in Minneapolis.

Previously undefeated Virginia (18-1) won at No. 1 and 2 singles with Amanda Arbogast and Hailey Slatten, but Waseca rallied with wins at No. 3 and 4 singles, and No. 1 and 3 doubles.

Virginia faces Staples-Motley-Verndale or St. James in a 4 p.m. consolation match Tuesday, while Waseca moves to Wednesday's semifinals.
