You may donate a deer to a food shelf at no cost under a new partnership between the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources and the Minnesota Department of Agriculture.
When you buy a deer hunting license this fall, you'll be asked if you'd like to contribute $1, $3 or $5 to the program. The DNR hopes to donate 4,000 deer to food shelves this fall.
Participating processors in Northeastern Minnesota include Gamache and Sons in Esko; Kunnari Country Meats in Eveleth; Leave it to Cleaver in Grand Rapids; Stan's West Side Spur (SS Meats) in Grand Rapids; Sportsman's Paradise in International Falls; Karsnia Meat Processing in International Falls; the Bear's Den in Saginaw; and Kocian's Family Market in Bigfork.
