Derek Plante, who has served as a Minnesota Duluth assistant men's hockey coach for the past three seasons, will handle those same duties with the U.S. Under-18 Select Team next month when it competes in the 2013 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament. That eight-team international event is set for Aug. 5-10 in Breclav, Czech Republic and Piestany, Slovakia.

The former Bulldogs All-America center skated with the U.S. at the International Ice Hockey Federation World Championships on seven occasions: 1992, 1993, 1996 and 2000-04. He also enjoyed an eight-year National Hockey League tenure with Buffalo (1993-99), Dallas (1998-99 and 1999-2000), Chicago (1999-2000) and Philadelphia (2000-01).

The Hlinka tournament includes teams from Canada, the Czech Republic, Finland, Russia, Slovakia, Sweden, Switzerland and the U.S.
