Junior center Brienna Gillanders scored a pair of goals Sunday afternoon as No. 10-ranked Minnesota Duluth defeated Minnesota State-Mankato 4-2 in a Western Collegiate Hockey Association game at Amsoil Arena in front of 1,333 fans. That broke a UMD three-game losing streak.
The Bulldogs (14-11-3, 13-10-1 WCHA) broke a 1-1 tie as Gillanders scored 7:08 into the second period and senior center Jessica Wong made it 3-1 with 3:25 left in the period. Wong has 48 goals and 120 points in 137 career games. Jenna McParland had two assists.
Gillanders added a goal midway through the third period before Mankato's Lauren Smith scored nine seconds later. Smith, a senior, has 21 goals this season and 41 for her career. Mankato (10-17-3, 6-15-3) won 2-1 Saturday and was 2-1-1 against UMD this season.
Senior winger Pernilla Winberg had a shorthanded first-period goal for UMD. She has 45 career goals and 111 points in 133 games.
Winning goalie Kayla Black had 22 saves as UMD led in shots on goal 27-24.
