Ashleigh Brykaliuk and Lara Stalder staked Minnesota Duluth to an early lead and Katerina Mrazova scored her first two goals of the season as Minnesota Duluth cruised to a 6-1 WCHA victory at St. Cloud State on Friday.
Brykaliuk scored her team-high seventh goal of the season to open the scoring 9:11 into the first period, followed by Stalder’s fourth goal of the campaign at 15:05.
Mrazova, a Czech Republic native who only scored one goal after becoming eligible for UMD midway through the 2013-14 season, then scored twice in the second period.
Brigette Lacquette, who missed last season as she played with the Canadian national team, also scored her first of the season to offset a goal by the Huskies’ Molly Illikainen. Illikainen, a junior from Grand Rapids, leads St. Cloud State with eight goals.
UMD defenseman Sidney Morin tallied her first goal of the season on a power play at 15:50 of the third period.
Goaltender Kayla Black stopped 20 shots for UMD (7-4-2 overall, 4-4-1-1 WCHA), while Julie Friend made 32 saves for the Huskies (5-5-1, 2-2-1-1).
The teams meet again at 3:07 p.m. today in St. Cloud.
