Minnesota Duluth freshman Josh Threlkeld hit a line drive to left field to drive in freshman Tyler Erickson for the game-winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning as the Bulldogs beat Minnesota State-Mankato 5-4 on Monday to salvage a split of their home doubleheader at Bulldog Park.
In the first game of the North Central Conference doubleheader the Mavericks scored two runs in the fifth and went on to beat the Bulldogs 5-4. UMD's Kyle Zweber took the loss, striking out seven while giving up eight hits.
In the second game, UMD's Ty Fadness hit a single to right field to bring in Luke Johnson for the tying run in the bottom of the seventh inning -- sending the game into extra innings.
Gary Wilfahrt pitched 1 1/3 innings in relief of Cole Hytjan to earn the win, striking out two without allowing a hit.
