ARLINGTON, Texas -- Twins catcher Joe Mauer, out since Aug. 20 with post-concussion symptoms, is making steady progress and could return as soon as Friday, provided there are no setbacks.
"It's probably a tad early, but that would be ideal," Twins general manager Terry Ryan said Sunday. "He's doing better. That's the important thing."
Mauer hit off a tee Saturday and has been able to slowly increase his baseball activity while working at Target Field with rehab coordinator Lanning Tucker.
"We're going to give him more each day," Ryan said of Mauer. "At this point I can tell you everything is going well."
The Twins open a 10-game homestand on Friday against Toronto.
