Here are some ways you can try stand-up paddleboarding (SUP) in the Duluth area:

  • Rent an SUP from UMD --The Recreational Sports Outdoor Program at the University of Minnesota Duluth rents stand-up paddleboards with paddle, PFD and wetsuit for $25 per day. Go to 154 Sports and Health Center, call (218) 726-6134 or e-mail rental@d.umn.edu . After hours, call (218) 726-7128.
  • UMD's Recreational Sports Outdoor Program will offer a "Lester River stand-up paddleboard and sit-on-top kayak rental" outing from 3 to 9 p.m. Saturday . RSOP staff will have equipment available -- first-come, first-served -- on the west side of the Lester River. Staff will provide instruction. Cost is $25 per person.

  • Ski Hut offers free stand-up paddleboard demos at 5 p.m. every Tuesday for those who register by calling the shop at (218) 724-8525. The demos are held on the Duluth harbor off Park Point.
  • Trailfitters will offer a free stand-up paddleboard demo from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. today on the beach at Park Point near the city beach house.
