Minnesota Duluth track and field athletes Mackenzie Hall and Maddie Verkerke posted top five finishes Friday at the prestigious Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa.
Hall, a junior from Dodgeville, Minnesota, finished third in the 5,000-meter run in 17 minutes, 30.80 seconds. That shattered her personal record in the event by 16 seconds and ranks seventh all-time in UMD history. Hall now ranks fourth fastest in the NSIC for the 2021 outdoor season.
Maddie Verkerke, a freshman from White Bear Lake, Minnesota, finished fourth in the 1,500 in 4:40.91. Verkerke has yet to finish outside the top five in any event this outdoor season and has the NSIC’s eighth-best time in the 1,500.
Hall and Verkerke will join their teammates Saturday in Winona, Minnesota, for the River City Rumble hosted by Winona State.
