After a one-week regular season, the Minnesota Duluth men’s and women’s track and field team will conclude the indoor season this weekend with the NSIC Track & Field Championships at Myers Field House in Mankato, Minnesota.
The men will compete Thursday and Friday in the heptathlon, with men’s event finals Friday afternoon. The women’s finals take place Saturday. No spectators will be allowed at the meet.
The UMD men competed in only one meet, last Saturday at the President Davenport Classic in Mankato. Eight Bulldogs recorded top-three finishes in running events, led by junior Jonathan Tostenson’s win in the mile, junior Cole Fechner’s triumph at 800 meters, senior Cole Lebourgeois’ win in the 1,000 meters, senior Braydon Kubat’s victory in the 3,000 meters and junior Matthew Trutna’s win in the 5,000. Sophomore Mathew Caines took second in the triple jump for the Bulldogs’ best placement in the field events.
The UMD women competed in three meets in an eight-day span, with seven top-five individual finishes in Mankato. Freshman Maddie Verkerke won the mile run, sophomore Hannah Lamkin finished second in the 60-meter hurdles and senior Elizabeth Kyes was runner-up in the 800. The Bulldogs won the distance medley and were second in the 1,600 relay.
