Bjorklund into Colorado Running Hall of Fame
Two-time Grandma's Marathon champion and 1976 U.S. Olympian Garry Bjorklund, a Proctor native living in Fort Collins, Colo., was inducted into the Colorado Running Hall of Fame last Thursday in Denver.
Bjorklund, 61, set a Minnesota high school mile record of 4 minutes, 5.1 seconds at Proctor, was an All-American distance runner at the University of Minnesota and competed in the 1976 Summer Games in Montreal at 10,000 meters.
He won Grandma's Marathon in 1977 and 1980, and was fifth in the 1977 New York City Marathon and 1979 Boston Marathon. He was inducted into the Road Runners Club of America's Hall of Fame in 1988 and the DECC Athletic Hall of Fame.
