Duluth East and Rock Ridge were both eliminated from the team portion of the boys state tennis tournament on Tuesday, though the Greyhounds and Wolverines both have individuals set to take the courts on Thursday, as does Hermantown.
East fell 7-0 to Wayzata in the Class AA quarterfinals on Tuesday at Prior Lake High School. The Hounds will be back in Prior Lake on Thursday when Ty Kruger and Dane Patten take on Orono’s Preston Perrill and Jack Tanner in the opening round of the Class AA doubles tournament at 10 a.m. The winners will advance to play a second-round matchup at 5 p.m. Thursday.
In Class A in St. Cloud, Rock Ridge was edged out by Rochester Lourdes in the quarterfinals 4-3. The Wolverines went 3-0 in doubles play — but 0-4 in singles — getting wins from Ryan Scherf and Jace Westerbur (6-0, 6-1), Logan Bialke and Sam Berlin (6-4, 6-2), and from Chase Powell and Keegan Rudebusch.
Scherf and Westerbur will be back in action on Thursday in St. Cloud taking on Foley’s Tanner Funk and Tanner Tschumper in the opening round of the Class A doubles tournament, which begins at 10 a.m.
On the opposite side of the Class A doubles bracket, Hermantown’s Zam Plante and Aaron Evjen take on Luverne’s Blake Frahm and Ben Jarchow in the first round Thursday.
In the Class A singles bracket, Rock Ridge’s Jared Delich takes on Caleb Velgersdyk of Southwest Christian High School at 8 a.m.
