Lakers win district semifinal
The Superior Lakers defeated the Haugen Hornets 10-5 in a Wisconsin Baseball Association district tournament semifinal Saturday at Larry Somerville Field in Hayward.
Adam Zwak was the winning pitcher. He worked the first eight innings, allowing four on nine hits and four walks while striking out four. Michael Stocke recorded two outs in the ninth, but walked three and struck out one before giving way to Ryan Myhre, who struck out the only batter he faced.
The Lakers had 12 hits, including a home run, double and two RBIs from Brian Burman.
Superior plays the Hayward Hawks at noon today for a berth in next weekend's WBA State Tournament in Coon Valley. Hayward advanced after scoring six runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to defeat Chippewa Falls 7-6 Friday night.

The Twin Ports North Stars, Oulu Blue Jays and Ashland Merchants, all of the Upper 13 League, also were in action Saturday night.
