Stodghill crosses off another continent

Mark Stodghill of Duluth crossed South America off his list Sunday in a quest to complete marathons on all seven continents. He finished the City of Rio de Janeiro Marathon in Brazil in 4 hours, 26 minutes, 50 seconds.

Mark Stodghill of Duluth crossed South America off his list Sunday in a quest to complete marathons on all seven continents. He finished the City of Rio de Janeiro Marathon in Brazil in 4 hours, 26 minutes, 50 seconds.

Stodghill, 63, a News Tribune reporter, has run races on five continents, with his next target the Solar Eclipse Marathon on Nov. 14 in Port Douglas, Australia. Remaining after that would be Antarctica.

Kenyan runners won the 26.2-mile Rio de Janeiro marathon -- Willy Kimutai was first overall in 2:15:01 and Tabitha Kibet set a women's course record in 2:34:41. There were more than 20,000 combined entrants in the marathon and accompanying half marathon.
