Already leading 3-0 after the first, the Hawks tacked on two more goals to boost their cushion over tournament newcomer Spring Lake Park to 5-0. Wyatt Aamodt made it 4-0 when his shot ricocheted past Panthers goalie Aaron Furlano, and Ryan Kero tallied his second goal of the night, which followed a beautiful feed from Cole Koepke.
Nate Pionk scored two goals in the first period.
Hermantown, the bracket's top seed, has been dominant throughout, including during a shorthanded stint when the Hawks kept the puck in Spring Lake Park's end and peppered Furlano with quality chances.
A win here would push Hermantown back into the semifinals, 1 p.m. Friday vs. either Breck or St. Cloud Apollo.
In Wednesday's first two quarterfinals, No. 2 Mahtomedi downed New Ulm 6-3 and third-seeded East Grand Forks was a 4-0 winner over New Prague.
