Sixth-ranked St. Scholastica seeks a 15th consecutive Upper Midwest Athletic Conference title this week, only this time an automatic NCAA Division III tournament berth is on the line.

The top-seeded Saints (32-5), winners of 16 of their last 17 games, open play against No. 4 Northwestern College (13-23) at 1 p.m. today at Wade Stadium.

Scholastica won 30 or more games for the 13th straight season and enter the tournament having lost five or fewer games for the fourth straight season.

The Saints, who swept three games from the Eagles last weekend, are second in the country in scoring (9.6 runs per game), fourth in batting average (.350) and team ERA (2.53), sixth in runs scored (356) and ninth in slugging percentage (.505).

The team's leading hitter, junior Kyle Moody, is ninth in the nation with a .462 average, while senior Joe Link needs just one more stolen base to tie the single-season program record of 40 and enters the tournament on a 13-game hitting streak.
