Spring has sprung, and "watch" calls it quits

Well, it must be spring, because we received very few observations this week. Don Bergholm of Hermantown reported that he has seen marsh marigold buds in the low places but none blooming yet.

I heard my first chorus frogs of the season this past week, but only a couple, and they didn't seem to have their hearts in it. Friday morning, I heard a single spring peeper peeping pitifullly from a beaver pond in Duluth. And the first shoots of clintonia -- bluebead lily -- are poking through the leaf litter.

Thanks to all of you who passed along your spring sightings this year and made Spring Watch possible.
