College women's hockey: Wisconsin-River Falls freshman forward Callie Hoff on Thursday was named the U.S. College Hockey Online women's NCAA Division III rookie of the year. Hoff, of Hermantown, led all freshmen in goals (20) and points (37) and was second in assists (17). The All-WIAC first-team selection finished the season 13th nationally in goals scored and had 15 points more than the next closest freshman. Only two other freshmen cracked the top 40.
• Norwich sophomore forward Sophie McGovern is featured in "Faces in the Crowd" in the latest edition of Sports Illustrated. McGovern, of Hermantown, scored the game-winning goal with 1:33 remaining in the NCAA Division III women's national championship game on March 17 at Kreitzberg Arena in Northfield, Vt., lifting the Cadets to a 2-1 victory over Elmira College. McGovern, who was named the tournament most valuable player, finished the season with 16 goals and 29 assists for 45 points.
