UMD made bad decision excluding Stromme
I need to sound off about Karen Stromme, acting athletic director at the University of Minnesota Duluth, not even being considered a finalist for the position.
I am a 1963 graduate of UMD who played football under the late coach Jim Malosky. I am in the UMD Athletic Hall of Fame. In my 50 years of following and being involved in UMD athletics, I have seen many administrators, athletic directors and coaches come and go.
I have known Karen Stromme and her family for many years. I have followed Ms. Stromme's coaching as UMD women's basketball coach. She raised that program to a national power and had a win-loss record that will never be beaten. She did this with enthusiasm for UMD and the local community.
Karen has a great rapport with people. She is always humble and works for whatever is best for UMD and athletics. As an assistant athletic director, she shows her never-ending energy to promote not only UMD athletics, but UMD as a great school. Ms. Stromme works very well with alumni and is always ready to listen and help whenever possible. As an "Old Guard" football player, we haven't always had an open-minded straight-talking athletic director for many years. Karen is a straight shooter.

I cannot believe the committee selecting UMD's next athletic director would not look past the end of their noses to see what they did. Not a good decision for UMD athletics and UMD.
A very disappointed alum.

Congrats to Marshall girls basketball team
Congratulations to the Duluth Marshall girls basketball team. It was a great show of sportsmanship and perseverance. Scores don't always provide winners and losers.
