Minnesota Duluth got plenty of pitching and hitting to win a pair of nonconference college softball games Saturday in Pittsburg, Kansas.
UMD opened the day with an 11-1 victory over Northwestern Missouri State in six innings as Julia Gronholz hit two home runs and Jessica Bren also homered for UMD. Pitchers Sam Pederson and Mady Stariha combined on the two-hitter with three strikeouts for the Bulldogs.
The second game was more of the same as the Bulldogs dispatched of host school Pittsburg State. Jordyn Thomas of Hermantown hit two home runs and Kiana Bender of Cloquet also homered for UMD. Pitcher Lauren Dixon scattered eight hits over seven innings while striking out 11 to lead the Bulldogs (4-2).
UMD takes on the same teams Sunday, with Northwest Missouri State at 10 a.m. and Pittsburg State at 3 p.m.
