College softball: UMD sweeps in Florida
Minnesota Duluth hit a combined four home runs Thursday in sweeping a pair of College Spring Games in Clermont, Fla.
The Bulldogs (6-7) defeated Merrimack College 9-1 in six innings and Purdue University Northwest 6-1, and is now 12-1 in its last 13 games in Florida.
UMD scored seven runs in the sixth inning against the Warriors. Sophomore infielder Jordyn Thomas, keyed the inning with a bases-clearing triple and Erin Thompson drove in her first collegiate runs with a two-run hit.
Sam Pederson earned the win with a four-hitter.
Junior Breanna Swint allowed just one run on four hits and one walk in the second game during which Thomas, Thompson and Emma Frost all hit homers.
• St. Scholastica was limited to four hits in a 7-1 loss to George Fox on Thursday in Tucson, Ariz. Maggie Schley, who took the loss, had two of the hits.
The Saints (6-8) also lost 12-2 in five innings to Trinity (Texas).
• Wisconsin-Superior lost twice Thursday in Kissimmee, Fla., 10-1 in five innings to Fredonia and 8-3 to Delaware Valley.
Fredonia held the Yellowjackets (2-4) to four hits and benefited from four UWS errors.
Delaware Valley scored five runs in the first inning and held on despite UWS totaling 11 hits. Tiffany Kirk had three hits, while Davirana Horvath and Amanda Kishish had two apiece. Horvath drove in two runs.
