Ella Young and Alli Voss scored goals three minutes apart in the second half to lead St. Benedict to a 2-1 victory over St. Scholastica in MIAC women’s soccer Wednesday, Oct. 27, 2021, before 89 at Saints Field in Duluth.

It was the first matchup between the teams since 2005 and first in Duluth.

After Young tallied a goal at 53:21, Voss connected at 56:19 on an assist from Grace Navara.

CSS came back with a goal at 62:22 when Duluth native Morgan Friday scored her eighth goal of the season on an assist by Mckenzie Nelson.

That’s how it would stay, as Annie Waters and Paige Kahlmeyer combined on one save for St. Ben’s (9-3-3 overall, 7-1-2 UMAC) while Taelynn Gittins had 10 saves for St. Scholastica (3-10-4, 3-5-2).

Friday’s goal was the Saints’ lone shot on goal; she has scored six of her eight goals at home this season.

CSS closes the regular season with a MIAC contest at 6:30 p.m. Friday against St. Mary’s in Winona, Minnesota. The Saints need to win Friday along with losses from Macalester, Carleton College and St. Olaf this weekend to make the MIAC Tournament.
