St. Scholastica struck first but it was all Gustavus Adolphus after that as the Gusties rolled to a 4-1 women’s soccer victory in the Saints’ Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference debut Tuesday at Saints Field in Duluth.

It was the first MIAC action for a CSS sports program.

After Saints senior Morgan Friday of Duluth opened the scoring at 5:57 in the first half on an assist by Ella Achterkirch, Gustavus scored three goals in a 15-minute span of the first half, including two by Page Cocchiarella.

Rachel Rehnelt added an insurance goal at 57:50 of the second half for the final margin.

Abby Goodno had two saves for the Gusties (3-2 overall, 1-0 MIAC), while Taelynn Gittins and Brianna Jorgenson had two saves apiece for the Saints (0-4-1, 0-1).
