CENTENNIAL (7-4-2) AT DULUTH EAST (12-1)

What: Section 7AA boys championship game

When: 3 p.m. Saturday

Where: Ordean Stadium

Outlook: The fourth-seeded Cougars surprised No. 1 Blaine 2-1 in overtime in Monday’s semifinals behind goals from Will Miers and Tucker Weldon. Goalkeeper Isaac Verke (0.91 goals-against average, .833 save percentage) has been key on a team averaging only 1.5 goals per game. Will Miers (5 goals, 4 assists, 9 points) and Garrett Miers (4-4—8) are the leading scorers. These teams did not meet during the regular season. … The third-seeded Greyhounds used Centennial’s upset as well as their own 6-3 rout of No. 2 seed Andover to end up hosting the section final. East is 6-0 at home this season and 33-3-1 the past four years. Included in those seasons was a Class AA third-place finish in 2017 and a runner-up finish the following season. The Greyhounds average 4.2 goals per game and have netted 10 times in two playoff outings. Junior midfielder Kai Hoffman (16-6—22) is the leading scorer while junior forward Amma Okoro (3-13—16) is an assist machine. Junior midfielder Jackson DesCombaz (5-5—10) is lethal on corner kicks, while junior midfielder David Wallerstein and senior forward Jack Mitchell have combined for 11 goals, many of them timely. Junior goalkeeper Eli Kramer (0.69, .868) has been stellar when needed. Since there are no fall state tournaments, this marks the end of the season.
