Top-seeded Wisconsin-Superior begins defense of its UMAC postseason tournament title with a semifinal game against Martin Luther College at 2:30 p.m. today at NBC Spartan Sports Stadium in Superior.

The regular-season champion Yellowjackets (14-3-2) needed double overtime to defeat the Knights (6-12-2) 2-1 during the regular season in New Ulm, Minn.

Eric Watson (14 goals) and Blake Perry (11 goals) lead UWS in scoring, while Dalton VonKaenel was the primary goalkeeper with an 8-2-1 record and a 1.09 goals-against average.

  • Second-seeded St. Scholastica (7-12-1) hosts No. 3 Bethany Lutheran College (12-5-1) in the other semifinal at 1:30 p.m. at Saints Field in a rematch of the regular-season finale.

The Saints were second in the UMAC at 6-1-1. Their 2-2 tie against the Vikings on Oct. 26 snapped CSS' 29-game win streak in the series.

Duluthian Nolan Friday and Alex Dodd each scored six goals to lead the Saints, while Duluth East graduate William Francis added five tallies. Goalkeeper Corey Bulheller (1.72 goals-against average) started every game.

Bethany Lutheran's Max Busch leads NCAA Division III in goals (25) and the Vikings' 75 goals also lead the nation.
