Minnesota Duluth’s Emily Hinz scored in the 12th minute but Bemidji State’s Sara Wendt scored twice and UMD managed just two more shots the rest of the way as the Beavers downed the Bulldogs 2-1 in an NSIC game Sunday at Malosky Stadium.

Hinz scored her fourth goal of the season at 11:11 on an assist from Nan Glinsek, but Wendt countered with her first goal of the season at 25:11 on an assist from Michel Kennedy.

Wendt scored the game-winner on an assist from Maggie Hallock at 82:52.

UMD goalkeeper Sophia Grenz stopped four Bemidji State shots.

The Bulldogs are 3-2 overall and 1-1 in the NSIC. They are on the road this weekend, playing No. 3-ranked Minnesota State-Mankato on Friday and at Concordia-St. Paul on Sunday.

Saints erase deficit, defeat Augsburg

St. Scholastica women's soccer team got a pair of goals in the second half to erase a halftime deficit and defeat Augsburg University 2-1 on Sunday at Saints Field.

The Auggies (4-2) struck quick with a goal five minutes in by Ashley St. Aubin. That was the score at halftime despite Augsburg outshooting the Saints 22-4.

CSS’ Morgan Friday, of Duluth, buried a penalty kick to tie the match, and 15 minutes later, Janelle Rouillard scored on a Jordan Lundberg’s free kick for the game-winning goal.

The Saints’ Alexa Gothard, who made 17 saves, stopped five shots in the final 15 minutes to preserve the victory.

The Saints (2-5) will be back at home on Tuesday to take on Macalester College at 4:30 p.m.
