College men's soccer: UWS upends Augsburg in NCAA tourney
Aaron Blanchard scored the game-winning goal in the 67th minute on a header from inside the penalty area to give Wisconsin-Superior a 2-1 win over Augsburg College in the opening round of the NCAA Division III tournament Saturday afternoon in St. Paul.
The Yellowjackets (19-2-1), who extended their winning streak to 15 and unbeaten streak to 20, will play host St. Thomas in a region final at 1 p.m. Sunday.
The Tommies (15-3-2) defeated UWS 2-0 in the season opener for both teams on Aug. 31.
Augsburg took a 1-0 lead when Hsinku Lay scored on a corner kick by Lionel Vang 10:52 into the game.
James Bruce tied it with his 16th goal at 24:26. Miguel Ocampo picked up an assist on the goal that started with a free kick.
UWS goalkeeper Dalton VonKaenel finished with two saves and his counterpart, Garrett Kaelin, had three for the Auggies (12-4-4).
