Minnesota United was active before Major League Soccer's summer transfer window closed Wednesday.
A source told the St. Paul Pioneer Press on Tuesday night that the club is "close to being done" on a deal to bring Ethan Finlay, a Duluth native, to Minnesota from the Columbus Crew. In exchange, the Loons will give Columbus about $300,000 in two MLS budget funds over the next two years.
Finlay, a midfielder who grew up in Marshfield, Wis., is in his sixth MLS season. He received his first call-up to the U.S. national team in January 2016 and played against Iceland and Canada.
โข United midfielder Rasmus Schuller will be loaned out to HJK Helsinki through the end of the 2017 season, the Finnish club and the Loons said Wednesday. The Loons remain hopeful that Schuller, 26, will return to Minnesota for the 2018 season.
