Musher John Stewart of Aberdeen, Scotland, racing for Streeper Kennels of Fort Nelson, British Columbia, maintained his lead Sunday after the second stage of the three-day Gichigami Express Sled Dog Race in Cook County.
Stewart covered the approximately 60-mile stage from Trail Center on the Gunflint Trail to Devil Track Landing near Grand Marais in 5 hours, 28 minutes, 7 seconds, for a two-day total time of 10:57:47.
Buddy Streeper of Fort Nelson, also racing for Streeper Kennels, was third Sunday (5:30:54) and remains in second overall (11:03:15).
Keith Aili of Ray was second Sunday (5:30:51) and moved up to third overall (11:25:45).
The team with the fastest cumulative time over the three days is the winner.

The race ends today with the final stage from Devil Track to Grand Portage.
Three teams scratched before the start of Sunday's stage, leaving 11 in the race.
