St. Scholastica will honor former baseball coach John Baggs at 11:30 a.m. Saturday before the Saints' Upper Midwest Athletic Conference doubleheader against Martin Luther at Wade Stadium.
St. Scholastica assistant coach Joe Wicklund, athletic director Don Olson, former athletic director Tony Barrett and KBJR TV sports anchor Tom Hansen will speak at the tribute, which will include the retiring of Baggs' No. 33 and the unveiling of a banner. Baggs' son, Maddux, will throw out the first pitch.
Baggs, 43, died Feb. 24 after a four-month battle with a rare cancer of the bile ducts. Baggs had a 531-197 record in 17 years at St. Scholastica, helping make the Saints' the winningest NCAA Division III baseball program of the last decade.
