Lucas Long stymied the Duluth Huskies on four hits as the St. Cloud Rox closed a three-game Northwoods League baseball series with a 6-2 victory Thursday night at Joe Faber Field.
Long struck out six and walked two in 8 2/3 innings, only allowing two unearned runs in the ninth inning on Alex Wojciechowski's home run to improve to 3-0 on the season.
The Rox (9-6) scored five runs in the first inning off Huskies starter Clay Chapman. Chris Paul and Vincent Jackson each had bases-loaded RBI singles, while an error, a walk and a groundout brought home the other three runs as St. Cloud moved into a third-place tie with Duluth in the Northern Division.
Wojciechowski, the Minnesota Duluth freshman who was named Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference player of the year, hit his second homer to score Michael Suiter and give him 23 RBIs on the season.
The Huskies open a three-game series against Thunder Bay at 7:05 p.m. today at Wade Stadium.
