Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson is close to reaching a plea deal on his child abuse case in Texas, ESPN reported Sunday.
According to the report, Peterson and his lawyers have been negotiating a deal, which could be completed by Tuesday.
It is not known what effect the deal would have on his playing status. Peterson has been on paid leave since his arrest. Officially, he is on the commissioner’s exempt list.
Another issue that could be involved in the deal is a request by prosecutors to have Peterson’s bond revoked after the star running back admitted that he smoked marijuana before his initial court appearance in September.
Peterson faces a felony count of reckless or negligent injury to a child after he disciplined his 4-year-old son by whipping him with a tree branch. The boy had bruises and wounds on him from the whipping.
- The Detroit Lions sent defensive tackle C.J. Mosley home from London and suspended him two weeks because he was smoking marijuana, ESPN reported.
The Lions only said a week ago that Mosley was being disciplined for violating team rules. According to the report, a smoke alarm at the team’s London hotel went off the night before the Lions game against the Atlanta Falcons at Wembley Stadium. The alarm alerted the hotel’s security staff to check Mosley’s room. He was found with marijuana, which led to the team disciplining him.
- Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Nick Foles suffered a possible collarbone fracture that forced him to leave Sunday’s game in the first quarter. The Philadelphia Inquirer reported that it was a clavicle injury, although the severity of the injury and whether Foles will miss additional games is unknown.
