UMD concrete canoe team
The UMD concrete canoe team recently competed in the American Society of Civil Engineer's Midwest Regional Concrete Canoe competition, where they placed fourth overall with first place finishes in rowing and display. The team was then selected via wildcard drawing to represent the University at the National competition in Florida in June. This is the first year UMD is competing in the national competition against 24 other schools from across the globe. The team started building the canoe from scratch in fall 2018 and creates a specialized concrete that floats on water. The construction lasts for most of the school year until competition time.
