MINNEAPOLIS -- Down to their last five outs on Monday, the Minnesota Twins needed their big guns to make something happen. Really needed it.

The big guns came through. Twice.

Minnesota got consecutive one-out singles from Jorge Polanco, Carlos Correa, Luis Arraez and Jose Miranda in the eighth inning to erase a 2-0 deficit, and Gio Urshela hit a two-run homer off Alex Lange in the 10th as the Twins beat the Detroit Tigers, 5-2, at Target Field.

The victory saved the Twins’ one-game lead on Cleveland in the American League Central. The Guardians beat Arizona, 6-5, in 11 innings to stay close.

Correa started the 10th at second base and moved to third on a groundout by Luis Arraez. Miranda drove him home to tie the game, 3-3, with a single to seventh. After Tim Beckham grounded out to Lange, Urshela launched a home run to straight-away center field.

After rookie Mark Contreras struck out looking to start the eighth against right-hander Michael Fulmer, Polanco singled to right, Correa singled to center and Jose Arraez singled to right to load the bases for Miranda, the rookie infielder who already has two walk-off hits this season.

Miranda punched an opposite field single to center, scoring Polanco and Correa, who scored the tying run easily when the throw from Victor Reyes was cut off to bring the announced crowd of 20,231 to its feet.

Left-hander Gregory Soto came in to stanch the bleeding, retiring Tim Beckham on a fly to left and Gio Urshela on a forceout at third.

Making his first major league start since May 28 for the Washington Nationals, Aaron Sanchez was solid in his Twins debut. Called up before the game after eight starts at Class AAA St. Paul, he pitched five solid innings, giving up two earned runs on four hits and a pair of walks. He struck out eight.
