A pair of local athletes announced their college commitments Monday, including Hermantown senior-to-be Sierra Bolen, who will play volleyball at the University of Illinois-Chicago, a Division I program that competes in the Horizon League.
Bolen, a 6-foot-1 hitter, totaled 272 kills and 103 blocks a year ago for the Hawks, who advanced to the state tournament for the second consecutive season.
Elsewhere, Virginia's Ethan Youso verbally committed to continue his basketball career at Minnesota Duluth. The versatile 6-foot-7 forward, another senior-to-be, averaged 18.7 points, 9.3 rebounds and 3.1 blocks a game last season for the Blue Devils. He was a 54 percent shooter on 2-point field-goal attempts and knocked down 38 percent of his 3-point tries.
