Prep report: Northwestern completes unbeaten conference run

Esko edged Duluth Marshall in a rematch of last year's Section 7AA girls basketball championship.

ST. CROIX FALLS, Wis. — Cole Lahti scored 25 points and Jase Nelson 23 as the Tigers completed an undefeated run through the Heart O'North Conference on the road Thursday night by defeating St. Croix Falls 92-75.

John Grohn added 12 and Monte Mayberry 10 for the Tigers (20-3, 17-0 HON), who led 50-32 at halftime and have won 17 consecutive games.

Duluth Marshall 85, Nashwauk-Keewatin 59

Jasper Timm dropped 37 points for the 12-9 Hilltoppers, who are on their second three-game win streak of the season. Brooks Johnson added 17 points and Alex Johnson 15.


Esko 54, Duluth Marshall 49

ESKO — Esko protected its house on senior night Thursday, overcoming a 32-point night from Duluth Marshall's Regan Juenemann for victory in a rematch of last year's Section 7AA finalists.

Juenemann made seven 3-pointers.


Jayden Karppinen (16 points) and Kyra Johnson (10) bolstered the Esko offense.

Duluth East 64, Osseo 54

The Greyhounds' victory over the Orioles clinched their first winning season in 10 years.

Rachel Hagen scored 20 points for East, which finished the regular season 14-12. The Greyhounds, who made nine 3-pointers, had three other scorers in double figures: Sydney Zwak with 12 and Ashlynne Guenther and Macey DeRosier with 11 apiece.


Krueger 1-1 to open state tournament

Superior's Connor Krueger split two matches on the first day of the Wisconsin Division 1 state wrestling tournament on Thursday at Kohl Center in Madison.

Krueger, a junior, opened the 126-pound bracket by defeating Sullivan Ramos of Kenosha Indian Trail via a 5-2 decision in the afternoon session. On Thursday evening, he met Bryan Winans of Kaukauna and was defeated by pinfall in 3:02.

Krueger will continue in the consolation brackets against Andrew Weiss of Holmen on Friday morning.
