Prep report: Northwestern boys hang a hundred

Both Duluth East basketball teams grabbed victories.

MAPLE — Northwestern issued an overwhelming offensive effort Tuesday to swarm Ashland and reach 8-0 in Heart O' North conference play, zooming past the Oredockers 105-68.

The 9-3 Tigers got a balanced offensive effort. Cole Lahti made three treys and finished with 27 points, but four others scored in double figures and a fifth player scored nine points.

Bryce Oswskey kicked in 15 points and Gavin Williams 14 for Northwestern, which made 15 triples.

Duluth East 70, Brainerd 63

Isaac Nyakundi scored a team-high 21 points and Jobe Juenemann earned all 18 of his points from outside the arc as the 6-7 Greyhounds battled their way out of a five-game losing streak.

Esko 81, Duluth Denfeld 54

Cuinn Berger dropped 29 points on the parquet at Denfeld High School as the Eskomos went to 11-2 on the season.

Both he and Makoi Perich (25 points) made three 3-pointers apiece.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Duluth East 69, St. Francis 42

Rachel Hagen's 25-point game helped the Greyhounds net their sixth win of the season. Ashlynne Guenther added 20.

GIRLS HOCKEY

Edina 1, Proctor-Hermantown 0

The hosts won the rare matchup of defending state champions on Tuesday at Braemar Arena.

Whitney Horton scored the game's only goal in the third period, while Uma Corniea set a state record with her 30th career shutout.

Cloquet-Esko-Carlton 1, Hibbing-Chisholm 0

CEC's Marina Dostal, playing in her 100th varsity game, scored the contest's only goal in the third period for the 12-6-1 Lumberjacks, who have won five games in a row.

Araya Kiminski made 21 saves for CEC in her second consecutive shutout.
