Prep tennis: East's Hietala headed to Montana

Greyhounds senior played in five state tournaments.

Duluth East senior Aili Hietala will sign a letter of intent Wednesday to play Division I tennis at the University of Montana next fall.

Hietala accrued a high school career record of 145 wins and 18 losses, qualifying for five Class AA individual state tournaments. The two-time Section 7AA champion finished third at state in 2017 and fifth in 2019.

Hietala also has competed in several United States Tennis Association National Championships on hard and clay courts. She also was a member of many USTA Northern Section Zonals and Intersectional teams.
