Defending champion Duluth East swept team and individual titles in Thursday's Section 7 high school Nordic skiing meet at Giants Ridge in Biwabik. Ely placed second in both team races.
The top-ranked East girls had four of the first five finishers in the 10.9-kilometer pursuit race, led by No. 1-rated Annie Harvieux, a senior, who won in 33 minutes, 12.1 seconds. She was followed East senior Chelsey Youngberg in 34:10.4 and Ely junior Amy Bianco in 34:18.4. A year ago, Harvieux and Bianco tied for the individual championship.
The Greyhounds have won two straight Section 7 girls team titles, six of the last seven and 18 of the last 21.
The No. 5 East boys were led by senior Ryan Davis, who claimed a second straight Section 7 individual title in 28:45.2. Mesabi East sophomore Sam Johnson was second in 30:34.8 and Duluth East senior Geoff Ash third in 30:42.9. Duluth East had four of the top six finishers
The Greyhounds have won the Section 7 boys team title 14 of the last 15 years, which included 12 straight through 2009.

The winning teams and top eight pursuit individuals not on the winning team advance to the one-class Minnesota championships Feb. 16 at Giants Ridge.
