Nate Baer scored on a penalty kick, and Duluth East outshot De La Salle 15-2 in dominating its high school boys soccer season opener Friday afternoon at Ordean Stadium. Mike Sorensen and Tim Beddow added goals for the Greyhounds against the Minneapolis school.

Hermantown 4, Two Harbors 1

Brandon Crusan scored two goals and the host Hawks began their season on a good note with the non-conference victory.

Cloquet-Esko-Carlton's Derek Schrecengost (22 saves) and Proctor's Nathan Jenkins (16) engaged in a dual of goaltenders that ended in an overtime tie at Cloquet. Romeo Benish scored the Rails' lone goal, and Landen Straub tallied for the Lumberjacks in a Lake Superior Conference opener.

Emily Diener scored in the eighth minute of overtime on a header to give the host Hilltoppers the LSC win in both teams' season openers.
