A pair of defending state champs met Friday night, and Wayzata flexed its Class AA muscle in a 5-1 high school boys hockey win over Hermantown at the Plymouth Ice Center in a showdown that never really lived up to its billing.

Five players scored for Wayzata (1-2), which won its first of the season after an 0-2 start. Tyler Stevens and Joe Ocholik each tallied a goal and an assist to lead the way. The game was scoreless after the first period, but the Trojans scored four straight until Jesse Jacques put the Hawks on the board in the third.

Hermantown won this matchup 5-3 a year ago, and both teams went on to win state titles.
The Hawks (0-1) play at Lakeville South today.

Greenway 3, Virginia/MIB 2
