Virginia defeated Annandale 7-0 Wednesday to finish as Minnesota Class A high school girls tennis consolation champion at the Reed-Sweatt Family Tennis Center in Minneapolis. No. 3-ranked Virginia (20-1) got singles victories from Amanda Arbogast, Hailey Slatten, Caley Westin and Brylee Seitz.

Rochester Lourdes beat Staples-Motley-Verndale 6-1 for its 12th title in 14 years.

In Class AA, Edina won a 14th straight champion with a 5-2 win over Mounds View at the Baseline Tennis Center in Minneapolis.

The individual singles and doubles tournaments start today.

The Forest Lake boys and Elk River girls are defending champions in the Section 7AA meet today in Princeton, Minn. The boys 5,000-meter race is at 2 p.m. and the girls 4,000-meter race at 2:45 p.m.

St. Francis senior Adam Zutz is the returning champion among boys, while Duluth Central senior Matt Kero placed seventh a year ago.

Elk River senior Abbi Aspengren and Grand Rapids ninth-grader Erin Baker are the top returnees among girls.

The Section 7A meet, scheduled for today at Cloquet Country Club, has been postponed because of wet grounds. The meet will be Friday at Cloquet or another site if necessary.

Quarterback Nate Anderson threw for four first-half touchdown passes and ran for another as the seventh-ranked Blue Devils (9-0) rolled to the Section 7AAA quarterfinal victory Wednesday night at home.

Anderson scored on a 48-yard run and then hit Cody Mauston and Drew Norri with two scoring passes each to give Virginia a 38-0 halftime lead. He completed 5 of 10 passes for 99 yards and rushed for 74 yards. Cavan Stackpool had 130 yards rushing on 10 carries and younger brother Cade Stackpool added 118 yards and two touchdowns.
