Grand Rapids senior Brady Thomsen added the discus title Saturday night to the shot put title he won days earlier as the Section 7AA track and field meet concluded in a downpour at Zimmerman High School.
Thomsen’s winning heave of 159 feet, 6 inches would have qualified for this weekend’s Class AA state meet by standard alone. Cloquet freshman Evan Erickson’s second-place throw of 157-3 also bettered the standard. The top two finishers in each event qualified for the state meet at Hamline University in St. Paul.
Duluth East senior Lucy Robb captured the 100-meter and 300 hurdles and anchored the Greyhounds’ winning 1,600 relay, while the Grand Rapids girls and Hibbing boys each won in the 3,200 relay.
Cloquet seniors Richmond Seju and Maija Doran each qualified by finishing second in the 100 meters, while Hibbing sophomore Emily Tromp (400), Duluth Denfeld senior Connor Behm (400) and Grand Rapids senior Megan Allen (800) were runners-up in their respective events.
Hermantown senior Kenechukwu Udejiofor won the triple jump last Wednesday.
